now what?

Times are hard. Money is low. Place of residence, non-existent. May have to take that move to Houston to get back on my feet. No matter what happens, I’ll be fine & repping MINNESOTA til you’re sick of it. No pity parties, handouts or sympathy needed. If anything, it shows me: NO one is above transition. NOTHING is certain. And NOT A DAMN THING will break me. Happy Friday.

Life After CBN

This isn’t a bitter blog. This isn’t a “blast blog” either. This is me, letting everyone who may not know, I am no longer with Coughee Brothaz North. It was a good run & I’m grateful to have been affiliated long enough to meet the people that I did. Coughee Brothaz is a family. A family that I’m honored to say I was a part of. I’ll ALWAYS be a Coughee Brotha. Always. It isn’t something you get jumped out of or dismissed from. Knowing that, is comfort enough.

I AM, however, a free agent in every sense of the word. That doesn’t mean I’m eager to go jump to the next squad/label though. I am LOYAL. Even if it’s to the point of ignorant. We live in a world where people’s word is as strong as the economy. At the drop of a hat you can see someone completely switch on everything they know. These are times of opportunity rather than authenticity. So I’m expected in a way, to bash, belittle & beef with my former team. Even encouraged to an extent.

It won’t happen.

My focus is on bettering myself. Continuing to make music/moves to ensure good representation of myself, my family & my city & it’s music scene. Anything less, would be uncivilized. Shoutout to the artists of CBN & the supporters of CBN throughout the country. I’m blessed beyond belief, even still.

stay tuned.

HOMEWARD BOUND

If you look closely into the picture above, it says “I Rep Metasota.” (thanks, friend).

Well, I am literally with the homie 86, getting dropped off at the bus (yes, bus) station en route to Minnesota. Before I forget, let me apologize for not being consistent with these blogs. At first, it was a matter of me slacking on doing them. Then, my piece of shit phone became an even larger fecal pile & kept me out of the loop for weeks. Thankfully, I am back into the swing of things & actually have something to say.

Throughout this tour, I’ve had more interesting experiences than I can even fully recall. There were situations so hilarious that I laugh hysterically about by just thinking them. Times that were hard enough to cut glass. Intriguing enough to look deeper. Each a blessing in its own right, each a lesson that I hope to become better through. I am now a fugitive in the state of Washington, haha. A situation I do NOT take lightly, but IS however, amusing. There is an official warrant out for my arrest, making me feel more validated being a rapper than any 16 I’ve ever written. I think Sir Trick Daddy summed it up exquisitely: “Baby, cuz I’m a THUG.” hahahahaha

I’d like to thank my boys 86 & Rum of my family, the Coughee Brothaz. They showed me: into their homes, southern hospitality & a good ass time. It was nice meeting 6′s daughter Sophie this morning too. I understand why he brags about her all of the time. I met almost ALL of Rum’s family, & was more than honored to do so. They’re good people & greatly appreciated.

Mirawge!!
THIS brother is a mad scientist on the music tip. He’s produced numerous Coughee Brothaz & other projects & PUSHED me out of my comfort zone in the studio. “Rum says you can hold a note? Ok, prove it. Sing this…” (goes into falsetto vocal riff)
I laughed. Thinking he was joking. He wasn’t. I realized it & complied. (laughing) “Rum, you hear him try & throw something extra in there?” (laughter continues) “Yeah, you’re straight. Then we’re gonna work you today.”
And they did. I can honestly say, it was one of the best experiences I’ve had in my “career.” I’m not holding back anymore. The key to success, –whatever your definition–in my opinion is self-sufficiency. I’m learning…

I am thankful for my favorite BIG cousin Stacey for her love & place to stay while I was in H-Town. She’s always been one of my biggest influences. Not married (though her man Terry is alright with me), no kids, & grinding. My cousin Marcus got to see me perform in San Antonio where he goes to school. It was weird & dope getting to do that. AND Morgan graduated from high school June 4th (which was Devin’s birthday) & I couldn’t have been happier that I was able to see it. I haven’t spent much time with my family in recent years, & it made me realize how much I truly adore them. ALL of my cousins are COMEDIANS. No lie. Every single one. Young & old. If you don’t have a sense of humor (or thick skin), you won’t wanna be around us.

Devin’s birthday was a good time. A lot of people there, but not a lot of people, if that makes sense. Mostly the Coughee Brothaz family & supporters. He performed. Finished by singing a Michael McDonald song. & did it pretty well, haha. 14K, Ill Faded, E Rock, Smit D, Street, DeeRail, Odd Squad, TONY MAC, Destruck, D Lac, Ivory, KC & everyone else are my brothers. I not only say that, I believe & know it to be true. & I’m blessed.

Now, back to the homefront. Back to work. Got projects/deadlines to meet. & I plan on dropping LOTS of brand new music this summer. As well as going back on the road to promote said projects. America, see you later. Minnesota, see you tomorrow!

meta.

My apologies to the people that are actually keeping up with this blog. I first & foremost thank you for doing so. This last week & a half or so has been extremely intense.

Brooklyn was a great experience, as it usually is. The Knitting Factory has a gritty, raw music feel to it. Reminiscent to 7th St. Entry for my TC heads. Maaaaaad love was extended. Space Cadetz were in the building holding us down. Even shot a video for J Starr & them while Pack FM was opening. By the way, Pack FM is a good performer. He’s from BK, so it was nice to see him for the 1st time live in his comfort zone.
My road rage was beneficial. Cutting me off on the road or even attempting to do so isn’t in the realm of brilliant ideas.

Boston started off on the wrong foot for sure. Hotel complications. Found out that we weren’t even at the same hotel that Dev & the rest of the bros were. & the place we were had NO food around it. I literally could not believe it. Then we get to the venue for soundcheck (which was 25 minutes from our rooms), & no one’s there. The building wasn’t open. So after searching for food & waiting we were able to check the mics. The place was actually in Cambridge. VERY small & congested. The crowd is literally on top of you when the place fills up. Fortunately, the crowd was live, our spirits were up & the set was a success. Sold a good amount of merch. Not mad at that.

Til Next Time…
